I think this is exactly right. It is pretty simple at the end of the day. Do you believe, are you proud to be a Christian who is an Episcopalian, are you happy and excited about your church and your faith, are you willing to invite, welcome, and share what you have found? These are the questions EVERY person must answer.

Thank you for this lovely message. Isaiah 55:2 comes to my mind. Christians (the church) spends too much time on things they think are important not realizing that knowing God in the most intimate way is the only thing that satisfies. I agree with J Patterson that this reminds me of the Holy Eucharist - Take and eat is very similar to Taste and see. Lovely thought.

Very well said. Grace Church Hinsdale is proud of our support of Episcopal Charities and the boys of St. Gregory now at Holy Family. As long as God continues to change people's lives through the ministry of Episcopal Charities we will do all we can to pledge our support. God bless you.

I would be furious if someone would be so rude and thoughtless as to refuse my hospitality by passing overflowing platters and bowls of the food I lovingly prepared. Yet I realize I do this every day to God by missing God's many acts of grace in my life. Your blog came at just the right time forcing me to slow down, exhale, and look around me at all that God has prepared for me - a beautiful family, my health, a beautiful fall day, and much more. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving.

I appreciate the spiritual perspective Episcopal Charities brings to its work and to all of its communications. This terrific blog is no exception. The imagery of King David imploring us to know God through taste conjures up thoughts of the Eucharist. You are a breath of fresh air and I can only speak for myself here and a real encouragement! God bless you this Thanksgiving.

Amen! We should attend church to charge out batteries. But that presumes that our batteries have been discharged doing work during the week. Too many overcharged batteries. Too many tanks that are always full. You captured it well. Full Armor!

The surge in seminary enrollment is due, as one of your Tweets pointed out, "second calling" ministers. I was one in 1995. Your blog gave words to what sustained me as I gave up a lucrative career and comfortable home to do the work God prepared for me to do (Ephesians 2:10). Thank you and may God bless your amazing work in your Diocese.

True dat! A church has to want growth and then social media becomes a greater net in which to offer more dialogue with potential new members.
I am a member of Bodhi Spiritual Center. And I'm sure they would like growth but I have not seen or heard very much from them in Social Media platforms.

Ironic that this convicting message is sent by the church. Good for you! Love the part about Jesus not sending the disciples to church. ROTFL The best churches I have been part of are those that are more concerned about who isn't in the pew instead of who is. God bless you.

I suspect people expect quick results from social media efforts because social media moves and morphs so quickly.

This is why I am forever emphasizing that 1) it's a *tool* rather than a strategy; and 2) building relationships takes time. As Carol points out in her comment, modest results are only starting to show up after a year. Sounds about right!
